The 2009 Time-Travellers' Gala
"Party at the Parthenon – A Roman/Grecian Revival" was our theme for the Time Traveller’s Gala in 2008. The food is always terrific, the music a groovy mix, and the decorations extravagant. The ballroom doors open at 6:30 p.m. and dinner is served at 7:00 p.m., with dancing after dinner. Our music ranges from relaxing classical and New Age during dinner, to upbeat modern/alternative music for danicng until 12:00 a.m. The Time-Travellers' Gala is open to the general public as well as to Costume College members. If you have friends who will not be not attending Costume College, invite them to the Gala. The food is great, the entertainment awesome, and the company couldn't be better. Everyone trots out their best and newest outfits to see and to be seen. It can be a great "first taste" that gives people a sense of what the College has to offer. Prices are as follows: for CGW members and members of Sister Organizations: $75, for non-members: $85. Please remember that we do not sell Gala tickets at Costume College, but you may be able to find tickets for sale by private parties during College if you decide at the last minute to attend (not guaranteed). Go to our Information desk and they can help you find tickets for our fun evening. If you have tickets to sell, you can also go to the Information Desk and they will guide you through the process of selling your tickets to another Costume College attendee. If you have questions, contact Gala Mistress Colleen Crosby. Photos from past Time-Travellers' Galas: these are only samples...
Gala Red Carpet Arrival Have you ever wondered how it feels to walk down that Red Carpet at the Oscars? Photographers everywhere are vying for your attention so they can get the perfect ‘shot’ of you in all your finery (for the evening news? the tabloids? your own photo album?). Your arrival at the Gala is very much like that. We attempt to offer a bit of organization for all concerned. We have received several wonderful suggestions for improving things and we hope they will make your experience even better than ever. The Red Carpet Arrival Area is a room designated for picture taking with reasonably decent lighting so we can see all of your magnificent handiwork. The room itself will be broken up into 2 separate areas. The Photographer Area is open to everyone that wants to take pictures of folks in costume. (Since space is a little tight, we ask that the Photographers are courteous and share the space available so everybody can get their shots.) The Model Area is open to anyone who wants to have their photo taken. We look forward to seeing all your beautiful creations as you arrive for the Time Traveler’s Gala. So, bring your best outfit and lots of flash bulbs, . . . uh, . . . memory sticks and batteries!!! Yea, that’s it!! -Annie Mitschek, Coordinator - (626) 390-9196 Photos from Costume College 2008 At the “Red Carpet” event this year’s Costume College, we had a guest photographer who graciously agreed to post all her photos on the web for the enjoyment of Costume College aficionados and attendees. She also took candid photos in the halls and the Marketplace. We invite you to visit them and download or order prints at http://picasaweb.google.com/MediaByMeryl. If there are any people who would like their photos removed from the collection, please let us know and they will be removed. We have, you will notice, not put names on the photos, so please refer to them by number. So, go to http://picasaweb.google.com/MediaByMeryl, take a look at all the spectacular outfits, plan to outdo them (or yourself!) next year. Enjoy! And we’ll see you at the Red Carpet again next year. Our guest photographer is not charging for her photos, but leaves it to individuals to acquire copies from the web service. Apropos of that, however, please note the following: Meryl wrote: “I was checking out the Terms and Conditions set by one of the 4 printing facilities connected to Picasa (Snapfish, owned by Microsoft who owns Corbis Stock Photos in this case) and look what I found buried way down the list, after letter H:
